Welcome to my inaugural blog entry! I shall (be trying to) log in on a regular basis about video games I am playing, upcoming titles and really any thing my nerdy little heart desires. ^_^
This first entry is going to touch on an upcoming title that I have been excited about for over two years now, Skyward Sword. While the release date of "Holidays 2011" is right around the corner, I can't help but feel a bit anxious for this title. Now I am not going to bore you avid "Hylians" with details about the game as I am sure you know the same information as I do, but what I would like to write about is the graphical approach of the game and how the Zelda community is approaching it.
First and foremost, all the nay-sayers who are saying that they won't play Skyward Sword solely based on the graphics, take it from me, you should not dismiss a game, let alone a Zelda game, based on how it appears. I have first hand experience with this, I am not too proud to say this but I did not give Wind Waker a fair chance when it first came out because I was expecting a Zelda with "realistic" grapics. It wasn't until three years later that I gave it another chance and I am glad I did because Wind Waker is now my third favorite Zelda game and is really one of the most innovative Zeldas currently available. With that said, I love the graphic approach that Nintendo is taking witth Skyward Sword, it's beautiful and vibrant and has the proper fantasy feel that a Zelda game should have. People who advocate a "real Zelda" I don't think realize that the other wordly feel of Zelda helps transports you to the land of Hyrule. I don't want a "real" Zelda, I play Zelda to enjoy the feeling of being in another realm and really to escape reality. Now don't get me wrong, a Zelda with improved graphics like we saw with the Wii U tech demo, is also EXTREMELY exciting to me but Zelda's heart is not in the graphics, it is in the story and the love that we have or gain for the characters. I don't know if Skyward Sword is going to be praised as a graphical masterpiece like Wind Waker but I feel like this game will be a feast for the gamer eyes and people should not dismiss a game until they have given it a proper play.
The Holidays are about 4 months away and I don't know about you, but I am very excited for Santa to put Skyward Sword under my Christmas tree.....
Defender of Hyrule out.
I do not consider people who pass on games because of their graphics "true gamers". Why? Because some of the best games ever produced look like poo poo. Because they're old. Stories are what makes games. Not graphics. Graphics are the lovely frosting and decoration. The story is definitely the cake of the game. My favorite kind of cake is a glorious angel food topped with a simple powdered-sugar icing, if you know what I mean. ;)
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about SS. I have been since they first allowed rumors to wisp about.
We will have to figure out a way to connect an XBL headset to our WiiMotes so we can ogle our refurbished Hero together.
